Supercomputers will soon become very compact and go into space
Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA) announced the launch of a program that
designed to use the computing power of supercomputers in space. Project
funded by the US Department of Defense and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The experimental payload will reveal the suitability for the use of technology in such conditions and the usefulness of the application of technologies. It is planned to enter orbit
send a supercomputer that has a relatively small computing power – about 1000 GFlops, which is comparable to the power of supercomputers of the last decade. Send a car with a volume of ~ 17000 m3 into space and
consuming 50 kW of energy, if not impossible, then extremely irrational. The highlight of the supercomputer,

These characteristics were achieved thanks to the use of 90-nm silicon FPGA-chips of the fourth Virtex Xilinx family, as well as Atmel processors – AT697 RadHard SPARC, C-RAM was chosen as the system memory
(Memory on chalcogenide glass) developed by BAE Systems.
