Six Epox Boards with Conroe Support
At Computex 2021, Epox unveiled six new Conroe compatible motherboards: EP-5P965 GLI, EP-5P965 + GLI, EP-5GZ946-M, EP-5GZ946-MJ, EP-5RC410-MJ3, EP-5RC410-M3. As you can see from the marking, in fact, these are three products, each made in two modifications.
The first two boards in the list are based on a combination of Intel Broadwater P965 MCH and ICH8 / R. They support 1066 MHz processors. As for memory, four DDR2 DIMM slots are designed for DDR2-400 / 533/667/800 MHz modules. The maximum capacity is 4 GB, which is disappointing against the background of 16 GB on boards for AM2. The EP-5P965 / + GLI modification is equipped with two PCI Express x16 slots (one of which has only four lanes), one PCI Express x1 and three PCI. The plus board has six SATA II ports (RAID 0 and 1) instead of the usual four (which do not support RAID). In addition, the EP-5P965 + GLI has a PATA connector connected to the ITE8211 controller. The sound subsystem is also different: the EP-5P965 + GLI uses the Realtek ALC883 chip, and the EP-5P965 GLI uses the more modest Realtek ALC660. At the same time, both chips are compatible with high definition audio and have 8 channels each.
Two other new products – EP-5GZ946-M and EP-5GZ946-MJ – belong to the category of more affordable boards. They are based on Intel 946GZ and ICH7 kits, and differ little from each other. Two 240-pin slots support up to 2GB DDR2-400 / 533/667 MHz RAM. Each card has a PCI Express x16 slot and three PCI slots. Four SATA II ports implemented by ICH7 do not have RAID support. The sound subsystem is based on the budget Realtek ALC861 chip, which provides output of six channels. The difference between EP-5GZ945-M and EP-5GZ946-MJ lies in the integrated network adapters. The EP-5GZ946-MJ is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet adapter (Realtek RTL8110-SC), and the EP-5GZ945-M has a 10/100 Ethernet adapter (Realtek RTL8100).
The third pair – EP-5RC410-MJ3 and EP-5RC410-M3 – do not use Intel system chipsets. Instead, the designers chose a chipset of the ATI Xpress 200 family for Intel processors, namely, the RC410 with a single-channel memory controller. The boards are equipped with two 240-pin slots for DDR2-400 / 533 modules, which allows to increase the maximum amount of RAM up to 2 GB. Since the ATI SB600 chip acts as a “south bridge” in both board modifications, they practically do not differ from each other. Four SATA II ports with support for RAID 0 and 1, one PATA port and an audio subsystem based on the six-channel Realtek ALC860 or ALC660 codec – this is on each of the two cards. As with the EP-5GZ946-M and EP-5GZ946-MJ boards, the differences lie in the configuration of the Ethernet controllers. The 5P-5RC410-MJ3 board gets Gigabit Ethernet, and the 5P-RC410-M3 is equipped with a 10/100 Ethernet controller. In addition, the 5P-5RC410-MJ3 is equipped with a component video output for connection to HDTV displays.
