About a year ago, IBM demonstrated a working prototype of a memory device built on Millipede technology, which will be four years old this year. Well, demonstration of a prototype with a recording density of 1 Tbit / sq. inch would be a nice birthday present for the German R&D center IBM. It is a pity that the technology, which could become an unprecedented alternative to flash memory due to its cost and density, is developing too slowly – “good old” technologies for recording on hard magnetic drives are breathing down the back of Millipede’s head, which has received a new dimension (i.e. n. perpendicular recording), which made it possible to significantly increase the capacity of the HDD.
