Symbol Technologies Launches Gen2 RFID Tags and Customized Inserts
Symbol Technologies Presented at RFID Journal Live Conference! a set of inlays (inlay – the main component of a radio frequency tag, in fact – a radio tag without a housing or base for fasteners) based on radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies that meet the second generation (Gen 2) standards of the Electronic Product Code (EPC). Symbol also unveiled a prototype ruggedized metal-mount RFID tag that will be the first product in the RFID Asset Tag family for automated asset management.
Symbol’s patented dual-dipole technology reads high-performance inlays and second-generation RFID tags from any position up to 9.1 m. This innovative technology uses two antennas on the tag, which makes it faster to read and write tags regardless of the position of the reader antenna. it
suitable solution for high speed conveyor belt applications such as distribution warehouses and airport baggage handling. The tag performance is further enhanced by a manufacturing process in which the antenna and microchip are assembled into a compact, low-power inlay that can be easily attached to materials from plastic and glass to cardboard and wood.
The first dedicated Symbol RFID Asset Tag will be a 152x152mm metal RFID tag for automated asset management applications where the process requires not only reading, but also writing data. This tag is reusable and can be used to track marked items under rough handling conditions, where they can be subject to strong shocks, and where the reading distance must be up to 15 m.
