Hardware acceleration of work with VoIP – Intel option, we are waiting for the announcement

It is not news to anyone that VoIP services are gaining momentum today, the same Vonage and Skype are insanely popular, many VoIP phones and various gadgets are already being produced to work with them, and operators register many new customers every day.

But here is a hardware solution that optimizes the very work with the service at the hardware level, presented (unofficially) only now and the company did it
Intel. The 600SM, codenamed Slick Mountain, is PCI 2.2 expansion card that supports multiple audio codecs to optimize voice quality.

600SM board is equipped with one connector
RJ-11 type (standard
telephone network), to which wired or radiotelephones will be connected.
To operate the device, as usual, you need the appropriate driver and software,
which will ensure its joint work with operators providing the service
VoIP (CounterPath, Skype, Vonage, Packet 8 and
DeltaThree).

The 600SM reportedly does not support
PSTN network directly, t.e. in order to commit
regular analog phone call, the device needs to be connected via a regular
modem.

Does the new device fit into the Intel Viiv initiative
we will definitely find out in the second quarter when the Slick Mountain map
will be officially announced.
