MRV Extends the Range of DWDM Connections on the LambdaDriver Platform
MRV announced the release of new models of Raman optical amplifiers for use in DWDM networks based on the LambdaDriver wave multiplexing platform. These devices are designed to work in conjunction with existing LambdaDriver erbium optical amplifiers and allow you to increase the range of DWDM connections up to 200 km or more without intermediate repeaters or amplifiers.
The new LambdaDriver Raman amplifiers are designed as separate devices and replace the earlier EM1600-ROA and EM800-ROA modules for the LambdaDriver chassis. These changes are due to the high power consumption of the Raman amplifiers, which requires a separate power and control system.
Released two models of Raman amplifiers, LDROA9 and LDROA15, providing 9dB and 15dB gain respectively. They are installed at the end of the optical line, directly in front of the optical preamplifier, and can amplify very low signal power, down to -40 dBm per channel. 9 or 15 dB gain provides sufficient power for the preamplifier to receive signal. When using optical boosters (installed at the beginning of the line) on an extended DWDM path, the total optical budget of connections can reach 55 dB or more, which corresponds to distances from 220 km. Thus, the use of Raman amplifiers can significantly increase the range of DWDM connections on the LambdaDriver platform at a significantly lower cost than using traditional “long-range” DWDM systems. A wide range of optical amplifiers of various types for this platform allows you to increase the range of any connections at speeds up to 10 Gbps.
The versatility and modularity of LambdaDriver systems allows you to build networks with the simultaneous use of CWDM and DWDM technologies, which saves money when building sections with a short optical cable length and a small number of channels.
