Windows Vista Premium Hardware Requirements New Data

We recently announced the requirements for the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. Microsoft recently clarified the requirements for Windows Vista Premium PC compliance, DailyTech reported. According to the source, starting from June 1, 2021, only PCs that meet the following points will be eligible for the Windows Vista Premium Logo:

  • Hardware support for decoding H.264;
  • HDCP compliant;
  • Support for multi-monitor configuration;
  • Multi-channel audio and the ability to determine if devices are connected to audio jacks;
  • Compliance of the disk subsystem (including the HDD controller) with the SerialATA 2 standard.five;
  • For laptops, it is mandatory to have a hybrid HDD equipped with at least 50 MB of non-volatile memory with a write speed of at least 8 MB / s and a read speed of at least 16 MB / s (we have already written about this requirement);
  • Support for booting from USB drives;
  • The presence of the Windows Vista Green Button on all remote controls (for mediaPC);
  • Compliance of all drivers with the “green” rating (Green Driver Quality Rating, DQR).

As we already reported, the main requirement for the Windows Vista Premium Logo is hardware support for the DirectX 9 graphics adapter, which is required to unleash the full capabilities of the Vista Aero user interface. The requirement for the presence of an HDCP-compatible video interface looks rather strange, because video cards with HDCP are just preparing for mass production, and not everyone needs a PC as a media center. The category of controversial “wishes” also includes the “green Windows button” on remote controls. What is this, an attempt to capitalize on the desire of manufacturers to match the fashion?

But the driver rating system is commendable. According to preliminary data, “green” status (7-9 points on the DQR scale) will receive drivers with a minimum number of errors, “yellow” (4-6 points) will be awarded for a satisfactory level of quality, and “red” (1-3 points ) will receive “Losers”. The number of errors caused by drivers will be determined thanks to the Windows Vista online crash analysis system. We think this will spur manufacturers to write high-quality software for their devices.

In general, this unofficial information raises many more questions than it answers. On the other hand, these requirements will become relevant only in a year, and manufacturers will have to take care of them not end users.
