Over the past 10 years, researchers have sought to improve the electrical conductivity of plastic semiconductors in every possible way, striving to achieve at least the level of conductivity exhibited by amorphous silicon (organic silicon). This semiconductor is used in low-cost electronics due to its photovoltaic properties as solar power cells and in thin-film transistors used in flat panel screens of laptops and TVs.
Today it became known about the development of researchers from the Stanford Laboratory – Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL) and Stanford University. They demonstrated a new material whose electrical conductivity is comparable to that of organic silicon. Their work is published in “Nature Materials”.
The essence of the work of scientists is that they managed not only to improve the conductivity of plastic, but also to regulate it. This effect was achieved thanks to the processing of the plastic surface. On the
