Thanko’s “Silent” keyboard: typing quietly

In an era of universal enthusiasm for noiselessness, which, by the way, fully meets the growing concern with environmental problems, including the ecology of the workplace, one of the peripheral devices somehow turned out to be ignored. We are talking about a keyboard, because this input device is also a noise generator, which is not always pleasant for others.

Therefore, Thanko, which has already developed an external hard drive with fingerprint identification, has decided to enter this market niche with the introduction of the silent keyboard, which costs 3980 yen (about $ 35), which will be sold in late June.

In order to reduce the noise generated when the keys are pressed, the company took a rather simple approach – a silicone gasket. It is claimed that the maximum noise level of a “quiet” keyboard is 36.2 dB, the average is about 30.2 dB (for comparison, a human whisper corresponds to about 20 dB). According to the manufacturer, the noise level of a conventional keyboard is twice as high – 61.1 dB (to be precise, it is three orders of magnitude higher, i.e. to. we are talking about the logarithmic scale of the acoustic power reading).

The rest is a regular keyboard with a USB interface.

In addition, the company’s portfolio includes a “quiet” computer mouse, in which the “click” volume is reduced. The mouse can be purchased for 2,480 yen (about $ 20) or bundled with a keyboard for 5,800 (about $ 50).
