Sep 03,  · Does anyone else have this problem? I installed Turbo Lan when I started using my newly-build PC last week, and mostly it’s been great. My problem is once I finished calibrating my line, my browser window still opens up everytime I turn on my computer saying it is still in calibration/shaping mode. I’ve gone and verified that it is % calibrated, and disabled traffic shaping, only to have is. Mar 24,  · [Motherboard] Turbo APP – Introduction. Turbo APP is a program bundled in AI Suite 3. GeForce is not just for gaming

Few gamers have a clue about the hidden capabilities of modern graphics adapters installed in their PC. And this is not about overclocking, turning on additional pipelines, and so on. The fact is that the GPU can also be used to solve tasks not directly related to graphics. And quite effectively, which was proved by scientists from the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina.

They were able to entrust the solution of the fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm to the GPU.
Fast Fourier Transform is widely used in signal processing, and the fields of application of the algorithm range from communications and radar to modeling digital systems and physical phenomena.

Created by two professors, the GPUFFTW library uses the high memory bandwidth of modern video cards, parallel processing of GPU data, pipelines, a tiling strategy for more efficient memory management and much more. GPUFFTW can efficiently handle one-dimensional arrays of floating point numbers (32-bit precision). In addition, the developed algorithm does not lag exactly behind the IEEE FFT algorithm used with the CPU, even on large arrays.

In order to evaluate the performance of their algorithm, the developers conducted testing. GPUFFTW used the resources of the NVIDIA 7900 GTX GPU, and for the CPU algorithm (Intel Math Kernel library) dual-processor systems based on AMD Opteron 280 and Intel Xeon (3.6 GHz) were used. The results (a convincing victory for the “processor for gaming”) are presented in the following image:

At the moment, the algorithm works only with NVIDIA GeForce / Quadro graphics cards that support the following OpenGL extensions:

  • EXT_framebuffer_object
  • ARB_texture_rectangle
  • ARB_fragment_program
  • Adapters with NV30 and higher meet these requirements. ATI GPU software version is reportedly in development. In the next versions, it is also promised to work with two- and three-dimensional arrays. At the moment, Windows and Linux are supported, which does not interfere with porting GPUFFTW to other platforms – the source code of the program is open for non-commercial use.
