Diskless Network Controller Hitachi TagmaStore Network Storage Controller NSC55

Hitachi Data Systems, a subsidiary of Hitachi, Announces Hitachi TagmaStore Network Storage Controller NSC55 Diskless Network Controller. Designed for mid-sized enterprises, the NSC55 completely decouples standard storage media (hard drives) from the smart controller required to deliver storage, data and content services. This allows customers to implement new features and capabilities and, at the same time, continue to use existing resources.

The diskless NSC55 manages up to 16 PB of disk space for attached heterogeneous external storage systems, including enterprise and midrange models from EMC, IBM, Hitachi, HP, Sun and others. Although many small and medium-sized businesses have significant disk capacity resources in their data centers, they only use a fraction of that capacity. NSC55 Empowers Enterprises to Improve Storage Utilization with Hitachi Universal Virtualization Layer Software. In addition, the solution breathes a second life into legacy storage arrays by adding features such as programmatic storage tiering and replication across heterogeneous arrays to maximize the value of these systems.

“Hitachi separates storage controller from disk enclosure in its NSC55 diskless controller. Its storage virtualization technology acts as a glue that links individual physical components into a single virtual system, ” said Tony Asaro, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “The result is more efficient system utilization and cost savings that cannot be achieved with classic integrated storage.”.

The manufacturer claims that the NSC55 and its diskless version are the first in this category to implement a multiprocessor disk controller architecture with global cache, which can be accessed by any server through a non-blocking switch. Load balancing across multiple virtual ports can be applied to host computers to access storage because all servers “see” the same cache image. Equipped with a massively parallel Hitachi Universal Star Network switch, the diskless NSC55 provides the ability to simultaneously serve multiple data-intensive applications.

Internal switched networks of the Universal Star Network separate cache and paths for data and control information, allowing the intelligent controller to dynamically optimize resources to meet application performance and data availability requirements. The diskless NSC55 uses a 32-processor architecture designed to handle I / O-intensive tasks and, like the standard NSC55, is the first (according to Hitachi Data Systems) midrange storage system with 100% data availability.

Diskless NSC55 is Now Available to Order Worldwide from Hitachi Data Systems Partners.
